Nov. 18, 2009 - PRLog -- In a move to promote tourism in Uruguay the Government of Uruguay has officially started a 86% VAT refund program for non-resident tourists who have purchased goods made in Uruguay. This is not only a good move for Uruguay's tourism industry but also for its domestic manufacturing industry and small scale industries.

A company called Premier Tax Free has been given the contract to handle these transactions and has made offices at almost all international airport terminals and many other  ports. All merchandise that qualifies under this program  must be validated by the authorized agents.

This benefit applies to the purchase of leather goods, knitting, food, drink or national origin crafts (made in Uruguay) and carry the tourist abroad. The shops which are eligible to sell items under this program should display a identification logo in their windows. The specific details should be obtained by Premier Tax Free company. You should save all your receipts to declare these items at the customs.

You should also check regarding the method of payment with authorities, also visit premiertaxfree.com. To our knowledge Methods of repayment can be done in form of  Bank Transfer, International Check or in form of credit card. Since this process is fairly new, it is important to clarify all the if and buts of the program, we do not have all the details available yet.
