Nov. 17, 2009 - PRLog -- The IJIS Institute, a nonprofit organization established by a shared private-public vision to improve mission-critical information sharing in justice, public safety, and homeland security, has been awarded a FY09 National Justice Information Sharing Initiative grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (U.S. Department of Justice).

The award, in excess of $1 million, will support adoption and implementation of information sharing projects using the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM). The IJIS Institute is partnering with SEARCH, The National Consortium for Justice Information and Statistics, to fulfill the grant activities, which include:

Regular classroom training on implementing NIEM, development and implementation of new or revised training curricula, and support of online distance training.

Providing onsite technical assistance to assist in the accomplishment of specific jurisdictional information sharing goals.

Operating the National Information Sharing Standards (NISS) Help Desk to make adoption of NIEM, Justice Reference Architecture (JRA), Global Federated Identity and Privilege Management (GFIPM), and other critical national programs easier and better supported.

The IJIS Institute will also participate with SEARCH in the FY09 National Justice Information Sharing Initiative grant they were awarded for Justice Information Sharing Technical Assistance in support of BJA’s Justice Information Sharing Initiative.

“These grants will allow the IJIS Institute to continue our work in promoting NIEM and information sharing standards nationwide,” said Paul Wormeli, executive director. He added that, “The training, technical assistance, and help desk services allow us to reach out to the justice, public safety, and homeland security professionals on the front lines and in the field and help them solve information sharing problems that will ultimately improve the safety and security of our nation.”
