Artisan and designer Jennifer Van Benschoten of VanBeads Jewelry and Designs creates stunning beads and jewelry in her home studio located in Jay where she devotes most of her time to conceptual design and her creative process making one-of-a-kind jewelry and beads. Van Beschoten is on the fast-track for becoming one of America’s most sought-after designers. Her work was featured at two of the most esteemed jewelry and beading tradeshows in the United States – GemWorld 2009 in Syracuse and Beadfest in Philadelphia. Van Benschoten was invited by the Syracuse Gem and Mineral Society and Interweave Press – one of the world’s largest artist and crafter publishers – to present featured lectures at the shows this past summer which validated her growing status on the national jewelry design scene.
Van Benschoten’s beaded jewelry designs and one-of-a-kind handmade lampwork beads have rapidly gained recognition among beaded jewelry aficionados and beaders across the nation. The artist’s designs recently caught the eye of celebrity Courtney Love and nationally published magazines including the very popular and widely circulated Beadwork Magazine which has featured Van Benschoten’s handcrafted jewelry on several of its covers.
About.com – a New York Times company – recently commissioned the designer to be their representative and expert blogger on the topic of beadwork. The beadwork guide is the Time’s on-line resource for advice, projects, education and tools for those interested in beading.
VanBeads Jewelry and Design is mentored by the Northern Adirondack Trading Cooperative - a partnership with the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and PathStone Enterprise Center (formerly known as Rural Opportunities Inc.) – which incubates rural entrepreneurs and assists them with bringing their products to a global marketplace. The program was established several years ago with the collaboration of former U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and now Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
“NATC is very proud to see the success of this talented designer,’ says Ruby Sprowls, Senior Business Development Officer of the NATC. “Jennifer Van Benschoten’s artistry of her handmade jewelry and beading is fabulous, and seeing her establish herself on the national scene reinforces the recognition of her talents which she is due while reflecting the worthiness of the NATC program. There is no doubt Jennifer’s fan base will continue to grow.”
