Nov. 14, 2009 - PRLog -- The music is rocking to an infectious Latin beat.  The sweat is pouring as the crowd shimmies and shakes.  Are they dancing the salsa in Havana, Cuba or Cali, Columbia?  They could be, but they are not!  They are students in a Zumba With Pam Fitness class.  Zumba Fitness is the dance fitness craze that has taken the world by storm and is now poised to take over Delaware.

Zumba started in the 90’s when Colombian born fitness instructor, Beto Perez, forgot his usual aerobics music.  He quickly grabbed his cassette tape from his car and for the next hour played traditional Latin rhythms—salsa and merengue.  The class was a huge success and Perez realized he was onto something by merging aerobics with dance to a thumping Latin beat.  Now, there are over 50,000 instructors worldwide teaching Zumba in over 40 countries.

“The principle behind Zumba is incredibly simple,” explains Pam Andrews, Licensed Zumba Instructor and owner of Zumba With Pam in Bear, Delaware.  “There are no complicated moves to learn and you don’t need the coordination of a traditional aerobics class or a dance partner.  Best of all, the music is so infectious that you barely even notice you’re exercising.”

A one-hour Zumba With Pam class uses the four basic rhythms of Zumba based on simplified versions of salsa, merengue, cumbia and reggaeton.  You will also experience a bit of calypso, African, tango, belly dance, flamenco and other international dances.  Participants are constantly engaged and entertained with the variety of rhythms.  It breaks away from the typical 32-count aerobic format and uses the passion of the music as it was meant to be experiences.  Even those with two left feet are successful in a Zumba With Pam class because of the natural flow of the simple steps that radiate through the body in synch with the music.

Since opening its doors in August, Zumba With Pam has already seen results.  “People in my classes are surprised how much it works your core muscles,” says Pam.

“Zumba is different and fun.  The music is upbeat and energetic.  Each song has a different routine, but the steps are very easy to follow.  Pam is enthusiastic which helps keep you motivated,” shares Sue Koperna.

While Zumba embraces all the fundamental principles of fitness, the extraordinary secret behind Zumba is how Zumba magically motivates the body to efficiently burn calories, effectively tone all muscle groups, incorporate full range of motion, and improve the cardiovascular system.  “I wear a heart rate monitor while teaching class and can burn as much at 900 calories in an hour,” says Pam.

Fun and music are two special motivational ingredients.  Utilizing the natural beat, tempo, and music transition, Zumba With Pam routines seamlessly flow from one toning, strengthening, or cardio move into the next, only pausing to take a quick water break.  Pam adds, “the secret behind Zumba is that it eliminates the work from working out by combining irresistible Latin and international music with dynamic, yet simple exercise moves while incorporating the principals of interval training.”

“I’ve been going to Zumba with Pam classes now for a couple of months and I’ve already lost 10 lbs and inches off my waist and hips. If I can do this, anyone can!  Getting moving with Zumba has even inspired me to get back into karate after years of not being involved. I just seem to have more energy. I can’t wait until the next Zumba class. The music is awesome and runs around in my head all week long. It just doesn’t feel like exercise,” says Mary Gutzat a Zumba With Pam enthusiast.

“Zumba is the type of workout that anyone can do and that everyone wants to do because it is so much fun,” adds Pam.  “People need variety in a fitness program or need a jumpstart and Zumba is a class that offers that.  You get a total body workout while dancing and having fun.”

Zumba With Pam classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:30 pm and Fridays at 6:30 pm at Ambra Karate Academy.  Ambra Karate Academy is located in The Shoppes of Red Lion on Rt. 71 between Rt. 13 and Rt. 7 in Bear, Delaware.  Additional information about Zumba With Pam can be found online at www.ZumbaWithPam.com or by calling Pam Andrews at 302-438-7779.
