Nov. 13, 2009 - PRLog -- 70+ boxes of food and fresh fruit donations from Gleaners Community Food Bank truck arrived at Genesis House III today.  The cast of the popular NBC daytime drama not only unloaded but served lunch, visited with clients and their children and, because of a generous donation from local Absopure Water Company, gave the residential facility bedroom “makeovers,” complete with new bedding sets and room decor.  "Days of our Lives" also distributed winter scarves and children’s books to the residents and their children. James Reynolds said, “Sometimes in our very, very busy lives we can forget the extraordinary difficulties other people face.  To spend some time with these remarkable women and their children has shown us how important it is that we understand that our community is small and we all depend on one another.”

Marcy Fitch, Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries Director of Volunteer Affairs said, “We are so grateful to the Days of our Lives cast and crew for choosing Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries for their day of service. The joy and the excitement that they have brought throughout the week and today has meant more to these women than we can ever say. We’d also like to thank Absopure bottled water for donating the quilts that the cast used to so generously make over the rooms; they brought color and brightness, along with this visit today, to make it complete!"

The service day was one of multiple events the NBC daytime drama has been involved with in and around Detroit.  Starting with a visit to the Dingell V.A. Hospital on Veterans Day and participation in Veteran’s Day celebrations at the Detroit Piston’s game the cast also toured The Motown Museum and enjoyed a performance by the city’s own youth ambassadors, Mosaic Singers.  The cast will also contribute to America's Thanksgiving Parade float building at The Parade Company and enjoy a Detroit Redwings game before their return to Los Angeles.

Friday, November 13th will culminate the series of events designed to connect the show’s cast and staff with the Detroit community and audience. The stars of "Days of our Lives" will be at the MGM Grand/Detroit to host a fan and talent search from 9am-7pm. Fans and aspiring actors alike are encouraged to come take part in this first ever fan and talent search in Detroit. The biggest “Days” fan will win a trip to Hollywood, California with a visit to the “Days of our Lives” set. Promising actors will have the chance to win a role on the award-winning show.

NBC’s “Days of our Lives” celebrate its 44th year on the air  this month and has already garnered numerous Emmy Awards and nominations, as well as multiple “Soap Opera Digest” and “People’s Choice” Awards.  The show’s success derives from its consistent commitment to excellence in writing and storytelling – supported by a diverse ensemble of performers – and an uncanny knack for anticipating viewer interests.

“Days of our Lives” is produced by Corday Productions, Inc., in association with Sony Pictures Television.
