Nov. 18, 2009 - PRLog -- The effective and environmentally friendly treatment of human waste products, particularly urban waste, is a problem worldwide.  But nowhere is it more serious than in developing countries where access to modern processing technologies is limited.  Many organizations and companies around the globe are attempting to deal with this problem, including Kentec Engineering & Consulting Inc. (Kentec) of Korea, a company that designs, constructs and manages plants that produce energy from bio-mass.  Kentec wants to make a real contribution to the waste disposal problems faced by developing countries.

Kentec and the American Independent Capital Group, Inc (AICG) have recently extended their agreement in which AICG will assist Kentec in providing W2E, shorthand for waste to energy, solutions for developing countries.  W2E technology processes biomass, such as urban waste, and uses it to create energy.  Under an exclusive agreement, AICG will work with investors worldwide to secure a $120 million line of credit which will enable Kentec to extend their environmentally safe waste disposal technology to developing countries.  Additionally, Sam Arnold / AICG have reached an exclusive agreement for AICG to market Kentec’s products in China.

Kentec utilizes the SK1000 gasification technology for the thermal treatment of municipal solid waste.  This modular gasification technology was developed in Norway and the first practical application of the technology was by Kentec in Korea in 2001.  “The success of this technology lies in the consistent reliability of the plants and the low emission levels”, say Mr. Kim Sung Chun, CEO of Kentec.  “The plants are easy and safe to operate, and have gained the public’s trust”.

The resume of Mr. Kim includes advisory positions to both the Ministry of Energy and the President of the Republic of Korea.  Mr. Kim was also Korea’s representative to the International Maritime Organization of the United Nations. Mr. Kim established Kentec in 1999, and since that time the company has built seven waste-to-energy plants in Korea, and operates four of them.  The company has built one plant in Norway, and has two signed contracts worth $80 million for additional projects in the country.

While Kentec is a relatively small company, its leader has big plans.  He would like to take on the well documented waste disposal challenges in China and other developing countries in Asia and Africa.  The scope of the problem is huge.  When the governments of African countries were asked by the World Health Organization to prioritize their environmental health concerns, the results revealed that while solid waste was identified as the second most important problem (after water quality), less than 30% of urban populations have access to “proper and regular garbage removal”.

Mr. Kim wants Kentec to have the financial flexibility to offer the best current waste management technologies to countries that lack the financial ability to buy a plant outright.  Kentec plans to front most of the cost and then recover the cost via operational contracts, a method known as Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT).  In this way Kentec’s investment is recovered via operational contracts and a market price payment when the plant is transferred to the local authority at a predetermined future date.

AICG will assist Kentec in securing a total fund of $120 million to be drawn from on a project by project basis.  AICG has active relationships with several pension funds that often prefer stable investments paying returns over a long period of time.
