Nov. 10, 2009 - PRLog -- Duncanville, TX: Attention all pups and perros in the South West Dallas area…it’s time to grab your Stetsons and check out the new dog in town! Camp Bow Wow South West Dallas, 519 E Highway 67, opens its play yards as the city’s premier doggy day and overnight Camp on November 13. Now puppy parents can leave their favorite hounds at Camp while their running errands, at work or traveling out of town, with the confidence that their fur-footed companions will be well cared for. All campers – pedigreed pups and motley mutts alike – are encouraged to socialize, romp and play the day away in this upscale digs for dogs.

Camp owner and Top Dog, Stacey Copeland has created a 5,700 square-foot, state-of-the-art Camp with amenities guaranteed to get tails wagging and ears perking. The Camp has three large climate-controlled indoor play areas with adjoining outdoor play areas, giving campers the ability to roam inside or outside whenever they choose. All campers join a playgroup, assigned according to their temperament and activity level.

“One of the things we often forget is that dogs, just like people, are social animals,” said Copeland. “Most of the pups that come to camp are ready to jump right into the fray, but there are always a few that are reticent to join in. That’s one of the reasons our complimentary Interview Day is so important. It gives each Camper an opportunity to get to know the Counselors and other dogs at their own pace. It also gives the Counselors time to observe how each pup reacts to a new environment.”

Interested puppy parents can look in on the activities in the play yards by logging on to the Camp’s website to view the real-time footage broadcast by the nine Camper Cams® cameras mounted throughout the play yards. Puppy parents who would like the ability to check on their camper any time, day or night, can ask the Camp to mount a portable Home Buddies CamTM in his/her cabin for an extra charge. Inside the log cabin-style lobby there’s a re-tail shop with the latest looks in canine couture howliday sweaters. Camp Bow Wow South West Dallas will also be working with the Tri-City Animal Shelter to foster homeless dogs and help find them a new home, and a new leash on life.

After a full day of play, day campers head home for the evening tired and ready to relax. Overnight campers retire to one of the Camp’s 32 spacious, private, climate-controlled cabins for dinner and a rest. All cabins are furnished with comfy cots and soft fleece blankets and are large enough to accommodate two or three pups from the same family if their guardian would like them to stay together. The pups also enjoy special Campfire Treats before bedtime. Camp Bow Wow’s fees are all inclusive; overnight rates include all day fun.

All campers at Camp Bow Wow are supervised by a staff of Certified Camp Counselors® trained in pet CPR, first aid, dog behavior, group play dynamics, safety/health management and, of course, cleaning procedures.  There is at least 1 counselor at Camp for every 15 campers during play times. To further help ensure safety and security of all campers, new arrivals are required to participate in a free interview day, before they can attend camp on a regular basis.  Canine campers must be on flea and tick preventative; at least four-months old; spayed or neutered if six months or older; up-to-date on their Rabies and Distemper vaccinations; have had a Bordetella (canine cough) vaccination within the last six months; and be in general good health and of sound temperament.

Copeland is among the first entrepreneurs in the country to offer Home Buddies by Camp Bow Wow®, an in home pet care service for pups that aren’t ready for camp and for blended pet families with many types of pets. “Our clients can be assured that the health, safety and wellbeing of their pet families are our first priorities, and that we’ll care for them as if they are our own,” said Copeland. “With Home Buddies we can offer a full slate of pet care services to our clients including the ability to check on their family by logging on to our website to view real-time footage broadcast from their home by one of our portable Home Buddies CamsTM.” Home Buddies by Camp Bow Wow provides a menu of services that range from basic dog walking to overnights and administering routine medications so that clients can tailor care to meet their blended family’s needs.

Copeland, an avid dog lover, has always dreamed of working with animals. Last year she retired from Microsoft after 15 years of service with the goal of opening her own doggy day care facility. She dusted off the business plan she’d put together three years ago and began the due diligence necessary to make her dream a reality. She found that Camp Bow Wow’s all day play concept fit with her ideal. Since working with Camp Bow Wow, her understanding of dogs and the behavioral issues has changed. Her goal is to help puppy parents understand how their behavior affects the way their pups react.  Copeland serves on the Board of Directors of the Friends of Tri-City Animal Shelter; the Board of Directors for her HOA and is also a Director with the Cedar Hill Rotary Club. She’s active in several Chambers including Duncanville, Cedar Hill and DeSoto and various networking groups in the area.
