A cracked screen is a fairly common problem for Blackberry Bold owners. A quick search of the Crackberry.com forums shows well over a 100 different forum threads dealing with the subject of cracked screens on the Bold.
This problem can manifest in several different ways. There can be black "ink" leaking through, solid white or black spots on the screen, a highly faded picture, or streaks running through the screen. Either way, part or all of the screen will become unreadable.
"Too many people just throw the phone away and buy a new one," says Matt McCormick, one of the Owners of Jet City Devices. "It's such a waste because the phone is still good. People can save a couple hundred dollars using our repair service. In addition, it keeps the cell phone out of a landfill."
The money saved by repairing the phone really can be substantial. When a phone is first purchased with a 2-year contract, the cell phone providers give a deep discount on the phone. However, once a person is under contract, they will pay the full list price to replace it. In the case of the Blackberry Bold 9000, that price is $499. Even a quick search on Ebay finds that most used Bold phones sell for around $300.
Jet City Devices charges $85 to do the Blackberry Bold 9000 screen repair. This means users can save hundreds of dollars over buying a new or used phone. The repair is available in person for residents of Seattle and it takes about 15 minutes. Mail-in repairs are available for the rest of the country and all repairs are completed within 24 hours of receiving the phone.
