Nov. 4, 2009 - PRLog -- A 2 person scramble event for collegiate and university amateurs, the National Collegiate Golf Championship will allow golfers to compete for their university to see who will be the 2009 National Champion.  The Championship has three divisions: Student, Faculty/Staff and Alumni/Community.  All levels of golfers are encouraged to participate.  The NCGC is also a part of the PGAU program.  Play Golf America University, formerly known as GOLF: For Business & Life, is a PGA of America college and university golf program, designed to teach and engage college and graduate students in the game of golf through PGA Professional instruction.  The PGA of America renamed and expanded the program with additional recreational sport elements, including a partnership with the Collegiate Golf Alliance (CGA) to deliver on-campus playing opportunities and a competitive element as a next step for students learning the game.

This amateur golf event is focused on university recreational golfers and consisted of 55 local qualifying tournaments held across the United States in the late spring, summer and fall.  Local qualifying winners advance to the official National Collegiate Golf Championship in Las Vegas, November 6-8, 2009.   The CGA and NIRSA will jointly promote and market the event to over 750 colleges and universities.  Over the past six years the NCGC program has benefited the NIRSA Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that provides opportunities for students through professional development, research, scholarships, and educational resources.

On Saturday the CGA will host the National Skills Challenge.  Invited players take a swing at the NCGC Golf Skills Challenge and see how their skills match up against other golfers from colleges around the country. Golfers will test their golf fundamentals in an exciting competition. The Challenge consists of five contests, each of which features a different skill shot.

Sponsors of the event include Golf Digest, FRS, Nike Golf, Golfsmith, UZONE, Cutter & Buck, American Hole in One, Advantage Fitness Products, Oakley, AlmostGolf and Matrix Fitness.

Silverstone Golf Club was designed by world-renowned architect Robert Cupp.  Silverstone is kept in tournament condition at all times, featuring lush rye grass fairways, true bent grass greens, great par-4 scoring opportunities and the longest par-5 in Nevada. "It's quite an honor for our Club to be involved in such high profile events," said Mary Grover, General Manager at Silverstone Golf Club. "It says a lot about the caliber of Silverstone Golf Club and the appreciation tournament organizers have for the challenge it offers. We're very proud to be associated with the CGA National Collegiate Golf Championship, and are happy to support the entire Play Golf America University population of golfers from students to alumni.  It’s great seeing all the various colleges from around the country represented in this prestigious event”
