Nov. 3, 2009 - PRLog -- “It is a very simple plan, but it could have huge results” says Susan Thixton spokesperson for the grass roots project.  Thixton says the project asks pet food companies to develop an email notification system on their website to promptly alert customers of a pet food recall.  As example, Thixton says one recent pet food recall wasn’t announced by the FDA until 18 days after the recall (confirmed by a pet food company representative) was published on her website.  “In those 18 days, who knows how many cats (this recall was for cat food only) had eaten the bad food and perhaps became ill or died.  If that pet food company would have initiated an alert system on their website, customers could have known almost immediately after it was announced.”

In just a few days after announcing the Pet Food Recall First Alert program, the plan has attracted many big names in pet food.  To date, Nature’s Logic Pet Foods, The Honest Kitchen Pet Foods, Mulligan Stew Pet Foods, Wysong Pet Foods, Complete Natural Nutrition Pet Products, Solid Gold Pet Foods, Dogswell Pet Foods, Dr. Harvey’s Pet Foods, Fromm Pet Foods, Red Barn Pet Products, and Canine Caviar have already committed to the program.

Thixton believes this recall alert program is a beginning; an open door to improved communication between Pet Food Companies and Pet Owners.  “I know there will be kinks to work out along the way, however it is a huge start to making things better” says Thixton.
