Former NASA Team Member Creates New World Clock

Nov. 3, 2009 - PRLog -- A former NASA International Space Station (ISS) mission control team member has invented a new world clock; a clock with no hands that turns counter clock-wise and according to the inventor “tells the truth about how time is actually kept.”

Christopher Leslie, former ISS mission planner, aerospace inventor, and patent holder, actually designed the “Truth Timepiece” while thinking about how to tell time on the moon.  “Well, how do we tell time on the Earth and let’s see if we can transpose that construct to the moon.”  That began a revolution. His inquiry into how we tell time on the Earth led him though the history of the ancient Assyrians and Egyptians, then up through the writings of Copernicus and Galileo.

What he discovered may be one of humanities greatest errors spanning centuries.  What he discovered was that the timepieces we all use now with two hands that rotate clock-wise are actually based on the incorrect premise that the sun revolves around the earth!

In June of 1633, Galileo was sentenced by to prison for heresy as the religious authorities mistakenly translated scripture to state that the Earth remains fixed and the heavens rotate, which was then at odds with Galileo’s evidence.

To ensure that the concept of Copernicus and Galileo’s heretical sun-centric universe was not expanded into the common knowledge, the religious authorities at the time employed skilled craftsmen to develop mechanical sundials that would point to the Sun in its perceived orbit around the Earth.

“As far as I can tell, they wanted to ensure the civic timepieces that guided everyone’s lives represented their view of a fixed earth and a rotating sun.  It’s understandable that they wanted to preserve the belief system…unfortunately that particular understanding, was very, very wrong” states Leslie.  “We are living in the 21st Century and yet we are looking at machines that are stuck in the 16 and 17th century.”  “It’s time to upgrade”.

On a quest with a pencil in hand, Christopher drew his model of the Earth and Sun viewed from space high above the North Pole.  It is simply one disk that rotates counter-clockwise and turns around once every twenty four hours.  It’s a small model of the Earth’s rotation with a stationary Sun.

The Truth Timepiece is a unique piece of functional art, “To understand what time it is where you are, just look at the top of the dial where the Sun touches the Earth.  It’s pointing to your local time.  The dial is rotating counter clock-wise so if the sun is pointing between the 1 and 2 PM…its 1:30.  If the sun is pointing just to the right of the 6 AM, then its 5:55.  The notch on the dial marked ‘home’ is where you are on the Earth as it rotates in and out of night and day.”

Several Swiss watchmakers were interested in designing the piece for your wrist but ran into trouble trying to retool their machines to develop a counterclockwise mechanism.  Leslie turned to the digital age for help.  He pulled together a team of software developers from London, England and Houston, Texas to bring the model to life.

Currently available now only as an Apple iPhone and iTouch application, the Truth Timepiece will soon be available for other platforms such as android for non-Apple devices.

What he designed digitally, he called the Truth Timepiece.  “This is what Galileo may have designed given the chance” states Leslie.  “I’ve designed this as a reconciliation of Galileo’s evidence.  This is the truth about how time is kept.”

Later versions of the clock will introduce the Moon rotating around the Earth and the tidal information…all data you can see by looking at a miniature Earth, Sun, Moon model that is the Truth Timepiece.
