BucksCountyAlive.com Launches a Pet Adoption Directory to Help Pets in Local Shelters Find Homes

Oct. 26, 2009 - PRLog -- Are you looking for the perfect pet?  With the new Pet Adoption Directory, created by BucksCountyAlive.com, you can search local animal shelters and rescue organizations for dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, small furry creatures, and even horses.  As part of the Bucks County Pet Guide, the Pet Adoption Directory will link you to animal photos and descriptions, as well as shelter contact information.  

According to the Humane Society of the United States, 6 to 8 million cats and dogs enter shelters each year and 50% of these animals will be euthanized!  There is simply not enough space in shelters to accommodate all of the animals that need help.  When you adopt a pet from a shelter or rescue organization, you save the lives of two animals – the animal you adopt and the homeless animal that can be rescued because of the space that you made available.  

The overwhelming majority of pets in shelters are healthy – they have been examined by a veterinarian, given vaccinations, and many are spayed or neutered before being adopted.  Some shelters and breed rescue groups also provide adoption counseling and follow-up support, such as pet parenting and dog-training classes.  These organizations are committed to making good matches between people and animals so that adopted pets will find a lifelong homes.
