Oct. 24, 2009 - PRLog -- Western world influence on eastern folklore is increasing every day. New technology can soothe the struggle for life and improve society even though the development distorts the daily life of the people. That means the western people just want to dominate eastern countries for their resources and then the two extremely different cultures will be in conflict.

Stranger Exhibition, Jirapat Tatsanasomboon conveys the different scenes between old Thai lifestyle and the modern world which relies on capitalism. He attempts to merge the western and eastern cultures by  featuring characters of  Thai traditional art arranged with well known modern cartoons such as super heros from American comics and Doraemon from the Japanese cartoon, etc.. The dissimilar characters are representing the faces of varied cultures in Thailand.

Jirapat Tatsanasomboon born in 1971 in Samut Prakarn, Jirapat received a Bachelor’s degree at Chiang Mai University in 1996 and preceded his Master Degree at Bangkok’s Silpakorn University in 1999.  Jirapat takes on well known icons ranging from old masters’ paintings to stars in the entertainment industry such as Marilyn Monroe and American comic book superheroes like Spiderman and features them in a new, Thai context which are often seen interacting with traditional Thai heroes and mythical figures, most of whom are characters in the Ramakien (Ramayana) which is originated from the Indian epic Ramayana.  He blends a Pop Art style with Asian themes, by acrylic on canvas, to his subjects.

Jirapat has participated in several art exhibitions in Thailand, Korea (2003), USA (NYC, 2006), Singapore (2008) and China (Olympics, 2008).  He also won awards in local art competitions.

D  gallery open hours are 11:00 am. – 07:00 pm. for Tuesday - Saturday and from noon until 06:00 pm. on Sunday.
