Healing Hands for Haiti Marks 10 Years of Service at International Summit

Oct. 23, 2009 - PRLog -- Healing Hands For Haiti International Foundation Inc. is marking ten years of providing physical medicine and rehabilitation services to Haiti by offering its members and volunteers a unique learning opportunity. Their 2nd International Conference will be held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on November 6, 7, and 8 at the BMO Institute for Learning.  Delegates from across North America and Haiti will be convening to discuss and develop strategies for carrying the organization forward through the next ten years and beyond.

Healing Hands For Haiti (www.healinghandsforhaiti.org) is a registered, non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the expansion of quality rehabilitation services and programs for the benefit of Haitian adults and children with physical and mental disabilities. Healing Hands for Haiti believes that the best way to serve the people of Haiti is to enable them to help themselves by delivering sustainable training, education and support.
For the conference, the organization has assembled international board members, medical team leaders and its core volunteer group of physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech/language pathologists, orthotists, prosthetists, and Haitian staff members among others. A focal point of the conference will be to evaluate the organizations past successes and challenges while considering critical issues for the future. These include increased marketing, fundraising, providing up-to-date facilities, and ensuring a strong culture of quality services and respect for all. Plans will be revealed for the building of Haiti’s first Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Institute at headquarters in Port au Prince, Haiti in 2010.

“We are one of only two organizations focused on the handicapped in Haiti. Individuals with disabilities are not treated with equality and are severely disadvantaged in an already disadvantaged country. Our work and programs are effective, we just need more support to do even more,” says Steve Fisher, President.

By raising awareness throughout the international community, Healing Hands for Haiti wishes to increase volunteer and financial support so it can continue to provide rehabilitation education, clinical treatment, and disability prevention to the more than 800,000 affected Haitians.
