More About The Canadian Consulate General in the New York Area

Clients of the Consulate General include many of the biggest players in fields such as business, finance, the media, and culture. The primary responsibility for this branch of the Canadian Consulate is New York City, Eastern New York State, New Jersey and Connecticut. By way of comparison, it is interesting to note that New York State, New Jersey and Connecticut have a population of more than 30 million–roughly equivalent to that of Canada–and a gross domestic product 48 per cent greater than Canada's.
Annual trade between the three states and Canada has soared to almost $50 billion (U.S.). That's up almost 300 per cent over a 12-year period and would, if this region were a country, be enough to make it Canada's second-largest trading partner. Along with the Canadian Embassy in Washington and 10 other consulates in major U.S. centres, the Canadian Consulate handles Canada's political, economic, cultural and immigration interests.
