Heart Internet Report on How Just 1 in 5 People Use their Own Website to Secure Employment

Oct. 23, 2009 - PRLog -- Nottingham, UK,  -- Job hunters are failing to utilise the power of a personal website in order to find work according to research conducted by UK web hosting company Heart Internet. The study* of 1,200 internet users, uncovered that as few as 1 in 5 (22 per cent) of website owners are using that website to promote themselves or their work.

The study also found a clear gender divide with men almost three times more likely to use a personal website to raise awareness of their work. Age also played a factor with the study showing a clear difference in their approach to using a website. 16 to 24 year olds were the most likely to have a personal website (40%) with the prevalence of having a personal website decreasing with age.

The main barrier to creating a personal website was found to be technical with 28 per cent of respondents stating they would like to develop a website to promote themselves but do not feel they have the technical skills to do so.
