Are you paying too much for your Duty of Care

Why are the charges for this service so varied? If you’re paying more than £52 a year you need to ask yourself why!?

Oct. 22, 2009 - PRLog -- The Environmental Protection Act 1990 saw the introduction of the Waste Transfer note system for the movement of all waste.

The emphasis was placed on the producer of waste to ensure their waste was handled correctly and safely and above all responsibly. So waste producers needed to ensure licensed waste carriers handled their waste and that the waste was either treated, sorted, recycled or disposed of via appropriately licensed waste management or recycling facilities.

In order to ensure waste movement was recorded and auditable at every stage of the transfer chain, the “Duty of Care” waste transfer note was introduced.

So for each movement of waste, a note needed to be in place recording the waste type, volume, time of transfer and waste carriers details. This note had to be produced in duplicate, with the producer and waste carrier each having a copy for their records. The copies of each movement need to be kept by each party for a minimum period of 2 years.

Annual waste transfer notes are permitted for waste movement that occurs regularly, and is described as the same type and volume of waste for each collection.

It is these annual notes which have seen various charges being levied by a wide range of companies.

Charges are known to be between £50 to £150 per year depending on the company issuing and administering the system; we ask you to consider the following:

If it is the waste producers responsibility to issue the waste transfer note – Why are the collection companies not telling you this and giving you the option to avoid this unecessary charge?

If you choose to allow the collection companies to issue them and administer the system on your behalf then ask them to justify the charges they levy. What are you getting for your money?

Ask Waste Check to help you in this process. We are here to guide and advise you.

We can issue a Waste Transfer Note for you for a fraction of the cost or we will help you issue your own that you can issue each year at no charge!!
