Q-Sensei Presents New Way of Searching and Browsing the Library of Congress Catalogue

The records added comprise more than 11 million hand-selected book titles from the 1600s up to present day.

Q-Sensei collects and preprocesses data on literature. To support knowledge sharing about individual records, Q-Sensei has developed an open system that allows users to further enrich each individual record and share their knowledge within an interested community.  This allows users, especially authors, to gain control over metadata and to benefit from additional, valuable information that aids searches by also showing editorial reviews, outlines or presentations, links to authors’ or publishers’ websites, as well as institutions that authors are affiliated with.

To best explore the data, Q-Sensei offers users greater accuracy and efficiency throughout their search by dynamically generating suggestions for search terms relevant to the current stage of the search. The Q-Sensei Engine offers the unique feature to “search within all search suggestions” providing users with a much higher degree of freedom than any other search engine. Currently, the Q-Sensei Engine connects various categories -- or “dimensions” -- of search suggestions such as author, keyword, publisher, language, and year of publication of books and journal articles, but also across these content categories, allowing for truly multi-dimensional browsing. By combining or removing search suggestions, users can conveniently adjust their search spectrum and better discover literature they otherwise might have missed.
