Oct. 16, 2009 - PRLog -- Modesto, CA – Over 15,000 fires caused by clothes dryers are reported each year; failure to clean dryer vents was cited as being the number one cause.  According to James Smith, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard, other causes of clothes dryer related fires include poorly installed dryer vent systems and combustibles being stored near the dryer.

The recent home fire in the area was reported to originate in a lint-clogged dryer vent line.  The clutter in the laundry area added fuel for the fire to spread rapidly through the home.  Cardboard boxes were stacked beside the dryer; a shelf above the dryer was lined with chemicals including cleaners, paint thinner and lighter fluid.

October is National Fire Prevention Month.  “When we think about National Fire Prevention Week, we might picture the fire department visiting kids at school to teach fire prevention and fire safety,” said James Smith.  “Dryer Vent Wizard franchisees are also working extra hard to generate public awareness on dryer fire prevention.”

In addition to cleaning dryer vents, Dryer Vent Wizard technicians educate their customers on dryer fire prevention with dryer vent maintenance tips and warning signs of lint build-up to watch for.

“Thousands of people die each year in home fires that can easily be prevented.  Unfortunately, dryer vent cleaning is the most often neglected maintenance,” said Smith.  Read James Smith’s article with more home fire prevention tips at
