Saint Mary’s School Field Hockey To Go Pink For "Play 4 The Cure" Breast Cancer Event

Field hockey teams at Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh will leave their school colors in the locker room, don pink jerseys and socks, and play with a pink ball on Tues., October 20, as part of the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s “Play 4 the Cure.”

Oct. 15, 2009 - PRLog -- RALEIGH, NC - The varsity and junior varsity field hockey teams at Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh will leave their school colors (Columbia blue and white) in the locker room, don pink jerseys and socks, and play with a pink ball on Tuesday, October 20, as part of the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s “Play 4 the Cure” national breast cancer awareness and fundraising initiative.  To date, Saint Mary’s School is the only high school field hockey team in North Carolina registered to participate in the month of October in this nationwide initiative with all proceeds benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

The varsity team from Saint Mary’s will match up against Durham Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Nimocks Field on the Saint Mary’s School campus at 900 Hillsborough Street in Raleigh. The jayvee game, also versus D.A., starts at 5:30 p.m. Donations will be accepted, with all proceeds benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

“October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the height of the field hockey season in the United States, and we are taking this opportunity to create awareness in our local community with our participation in this nationwide event,” says Saint Mary’s School Athletic Director Seth Lieberman.  “This is a merger of passion for the sport and a give-back opportunity, and we are creating a winning combination of athletics and humanitarianism.”
