Another important factor to consider is the area the home is located in.  “It would not be a good idea to build a large deck, surrounding a built-in swimming pool if the home is located in an area with a very short summer season,” said Doughty.  “A gazebo and hot tub might not be the best idea for a home in an area of lower-end houses where people do not typically have these things.”

Paul also made another important point.  “Some homeowners will make home improvements to make their home more enjoyable; for example, the hot tub and gazebo.  If they can afford it and the yard is large enough, and they plan to stay in their home for 5-10 years, and they’re content with a small return on their investment in exchange for enjoyment, then it may be money well spent.”
