“Secure Your ID” Day is October 17

RALEIGH, N.C. (October 7, 2009)—Better Business Bureau serving Eastern North Carolina (www.bbb.org) announces today that Black & Decker has donated two personal paper shredders to be given to consumers as part of “Secure Your ID” Day on October 17, 2009. Recipients will be selected randomly from event participants.

“Secure Your ID” Day is a consumer awareness initiative aimed at empowering people to be their own first line of defense against identity theft. The shredding event will be held at Ridgewood Shopping Center (3514 Wade Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27607) from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring up to three bags or boxes of documents to be shredded on site.

“We are extremely thankful to Black & Decker for donating to this worthy cause,” says Beverly Baskin, president and CEO of Better Business Bureau serving Eastern North Carolina. “This adds incentive for consumers to come out and enjoy the fun all while taking steps to protect their identity.”

This is the fourth time BBB serving Eastern North Carolina has held the event locally. To date, nearly 1,500 participants have shredded more than 25 tons of documents. Additional event information is available at www.easternnc.bbb.org/secure-your-id.
