Oct. 14, 2009 - PRLog -- Stevia World Europe has invited Wisdom Natural Brands’ CEO Mr. James A May to discuss the stevia business during a live webinar on 27 October 2009 at 10AM New York, 2PM GMT, 3PM Frankfurt, 7.30PM India and 10PM HK.

The webinar entitled, “Is Stevia Shaking Up Sweetener Markets?” will feature Mr. May’s insights on the remarkable growth in the Stevia industry through 2009.

There has been much excitement about stevia sweeteners as a natural alternative to artificial zero-calorie sweeteners, particularly since the FDA issued its non-objection in 2008 that the stevia-derived sweetener Reb A is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) as a food additive. Since then, Stevia Sweeteners have taken about 10 per cent of the US consumer market for tabletop sugar substitutes, according to a report by the Financial Times.

More recently, the French Government became the first in government in the EU to have approved Stevia extracts with 97 per cent purity Rebaudioside A (Reb A) as food and beverage sweeteners via inter-ministerial decree, opening up the possibility of a broader European Market for Stevia.

At the webinar, Mr. May will discuss how Stevia is Shaking Up the Sweetener Markets”, touching on the health benefits of Rebaudioside A (Reb A) and Steviol glycosides, Stevia’s safety and regulatory evaluations, purity criteria and reference standards for Stevia, consumer perceptions, and other issues that have a direct impact on the Stevia business.

According to Mr. May who has "..been eating and drinking, studying, lecturing, writing about, and marketing stevia since early 1982”, Wisdom’s SweetLeaf® Stevia sweeteners were the first to achieve Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) status from the USFDA in March 2008.3

He added, “Everyone who knows me will agree, Stevia is one of my most ardent passions. I am well aware of its healing benefits as well as its sweetening properties, and I look forward to sharing what I know at the Webinar.”

Webinar registration is now open at http://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/238683882 and participants are welcome to pre-submit their questions for Mr. Jim May. He will answer them during the Q&A session towards the end of the one-hour event.
