Oct. 13, 2009 - PRLog -- When the co-authors of “Letters To Brett Favre: A Fan Tribute” offered fans the opportunity to send personal messages to the legendary NFL quarterback through their letterstobrettfavre.com website, they never imagined that hundreds of people would take the time to send “Happy Birthday!’ messages to their favorite signal-caller.

“It’s been almost surreal,” said Erick Rolfson, who published the book with his brother Adam and Wisconsin author Thomas Hapka. “We opened the door for fans to share their personal messages to Brett, and the floodgates opened up. Literally hundreds of people from all over the world — Vikings fans, Packer fans, and flat out football fans — have submitted birthday messages to Brett through our site. It just goes to show how much of an impact Brett Favre has had and continues to have on the lives of people he’s never even met.”

Hapka, who began work on the book in the summer of 2008, was surprised last week when he found his email account had been flooded with virtual birthday greetings from Favre fans around the globe.

“I’m checking my email several times per day now, and each time I log in, there are new birthday messages for Brett,” Hapka told reporters in an interview Monday evening. “None of these people have ever met Brett, but they truly feel connected to him, and they speak of him with the warmth and affection most of us reserve for cherished friends and family members. I’ve never seen anything like this, but nothing about Brett Favre or his fans can surprise me at this point.”

Hapka and the Rolfsons report that the influx of letters increased after letterstobrettfavre.com was featured on ESPN Sports Nation, and they plan to collect letters form fans throughout the season. They guarantee that all messages will be delivered to Favre, and a portion of all sales from the book will be donated to Special Olympics.
