Oct. 16, 2009 - PRLog -- In time for the 2009 PGA Grand Slam of golf, which features four of the worlds top golfers – the Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda has finished an extensive renovation.  Roger Rulewich led the design of the renovated course, which was originally designed by Robert Trent Jones in 1970.  Rulewich was also part of the initial construction team for the course back in 1970 as well.

In its early years, the Port Royal Course was much admired for its layout and coastal views over the Atlantic ocean.  But since then, many newer courses gained popularity in Bermuda.  As a result, the Bermuda government invested 14 million dollars in a renovation project that took 18 months, and helped Port Royal return to being one of the top golf courses in Bermuda.

The main change was the views.  Several holes now have a clearer view of the ocean, including hole 16, where one’s drive from the tee has to hit the green precisely.  The course was extended from 6561 to 6842 yards, and several people have cited the course to have a fair share of hills in it.

Re-opened late summer 2009, the Port Royal golf course will be a challenge for pro golfers Stewart Cink, Angel Cabrera, Lucas Glover and Y.E. Yang, during the weekend of October 19-21, 2009.  To accompany this, the Port Royal golf website has also undergone a renovation too, launching in September 2009.

Even if you didn’t make the PGA grand slam of golf, you can book tee times and play at the same course the pros played on.  And if you can’t make it out to Bermuda, Imagine Golf Club has partnered with Port Royal to release a golf game that simulates the already well known 16th hole of the course.  The site will also have live scores during the tournament, and you can read further information about the layout of each hole on the course, along with the latest news.

View the new Port Royal website at http://www.portroyalgolf.bm – where you can view detailed image shots of each hole on the course.  Or play a simulation game at http://www.imaginegolfclub.com/games.htm - where prizes will be offered during the grand slam weekend.
