Yang (ranked 110th at that time) rallied ahead and won by 3 shots over Tiger Woods, in turn taking the PGA Championship at Hazeltine National this August. It was his third appearance in the PGA Golf Championship.

Yang has actually won previous PGA Tour, European Tour and Asian Tour tournaments, the more notable ones including the 2009 Honda Classic, which was his first event of the PGA tour and the HSBC Champions Tournament in 2006, for which he qualified for via an Asian tour event and ended up beating a strong field of competitors, including Tiger Woods once again. 2009 has easily been Yang’s breakout year though. With PGA Tour earnings not even hitting six figures until 2008, his rankings (now up to 23rd) and earnings have increased drastically since.
