Oct. 7, 2009 - PRLog -- Nashville - Dallas (Country Music Duets) - Music City News - It was the early settlers that migrated to America in the early 1600s that are the roots of country music.--- including dance music and ballads from Ireland, Scotland and England, as well as African American gospel music and blues. (In fact, slaves from Africa brought the design idea for the banjo--an instrument now integral to the country music sound.) As the early Jamestown settlers began to spread out into the Carolinas, Tennessee, Kentucky and the Virginias, they composed new songs about day-to-day life experiences in the new land. Since most of these people lived in rural areas, the songs reflected life on the farm or in the hills and this type of music was called "mountain music" or "country music." The invention of the phonograph and the onset of the radio in the early 1900s brought this old-time music out of the rural Southern mountains to people all over the United States. Good singing became a more important part of country music.
Singing duets and multiple voice harmonies have been practiced since the inception of mankind however, it wasn't until the early 1920's that it became a popular and appreciated art form in the country music entertainment world with professional singers.
Singing stars like Jimmie Rodgers, family bands like the Carter family from Virginia and duet teams like the Monroe Brothers from Kentucky contributed greatly to the advancement of traditional country music and multiple voice harmony. The Monroe Brothers were one of the most popular duet teams of the 1920s and into the 1930s. Charlie played the guitar, Bill played the mandolin and they sang duets in harmony.
There is a huge difference between singing together and singing duet with harmony. The reason there are not more true duet teams is simply because it is not an easy thing to do. There is more to be acknowledged as a true duet than just singing together. Even when taking two of the greatest singers that can be found and have them sing together does not constitute a "made-for-it" duet group.
The amazing talents in Deanna Cash and James Paycheck have the attributes that create the special manifestation of what a true duet should be. Their voices seem made for each other like the qualities of a finely tuned musical instrument. They use harmony notes like a football coach orchestrates a great play. Their passion and feelings for each other can be perceived through their voices, lyrics and body language on stage while performing. The music that they write together is only made to accent their profound stage vocals.
It is a well known subject in the music business to create as many hooks into the act and music as possible. Some hooks are intentional and some happen just by chance, recognized after the fact.A hook is a musical idea, often a short riff, passage, or phrase, that is used in music to make a song appealing and to "catch the ear of the listener". A hook can, in general, be either melodic or rhythmic,or lyrical, or combinations of these points and often incorporates the main motif for a piece of music. If there were a formula for success or a hook that can be counted on and used time and time again in country music, it is harmony voices. Consider every hit song you have ever heard and listen closely to see if there are any harmony voices in the song. The odds are 10 to 1 that there will be harmony voices to some extent in all successful country music and music in general. This accounts for the fact that duet singing is so well appreciated by the fans. Add to that the bigger than life appearance of a male/female partnership, singing and acting in a manner that seems to be a dream of most people and a phenomenon that is considered to be fairy tale like to the crowds. The combination is positively destined to be accepted and requested from the fans, fulfilling the entire range of desire when it comes to being entertained.
Deanna and James are the epitome of what a real true died in wool, male/female duet should be. Reminiscent of the legends of old, they bring to the stage an all encompassed atmosphere of love, happiness, harmony, fun, and awe. Many fans are familiar with male/female duet music and some of the most famous are the likes of June Carter & Carl Smith, who sang real duet songs as early as 1951. June is also well know as being the duet partner of her husband Johnny Cash which started before they were married in 1968. Dolly and Porter began singing duets around 1967 and made the word duet really mean something which many have tried to duplicate.since. Then we all remember the marvelous harmonies and image created by Loretta & Conway in the early 70's. Then in the late 60's a duet couple rose that will be impossible to equal in any way, Tammy Wynette & George Jones.
There have been many artists that have sung duets and many that have attempted a career as a duet team, but very few have mastered the art and deserve the title of being called a true duet couple. CASHnCHECKS are one of those couples. Being named the most versatile duet team in the business is a credit they cherish and strive for. James Paycheck is quoted saying, "if it were easy, everyone would be doing it".
