Oct. 6, 2009 - PRLog -- Cambridge, MA – The Harvard Negotiation & Mediation Clinical Program (HNMCP) announces the arrival of its newest clinical fellow, Joshua R. Nevas. Nevas brings with him two years of litigation and corporate law experience with Ropes & Gray LLP in Boston.

“I’m thrilled that Josh will be spending the 2009–10 academic year as the Ropes & Gray Negotiation and Mediation Fellow. Josh brings invaluable experience from practice to the work of our clinic. His energy and enthusiasm couldn’t be more welcome as increasing interest from students in negotiation, mediation, and dispute resolution systems design are putting greater and greater pressures on our clinical team. I’m grateful to Ropes & Gray for funding Josh’s fellowship this year and I’m looking forward to the great contributions Josh will make,” commented Professor Robert Bordone, director of HNMCP.

At Ropes & Gray, Nevas worked as an associate in the Corporate and Litigation Departments. Nevas’ practice focused on private equity transactions, structured finance, commercial litigation, and government enforcement actions. He also worked with the Political Asylum/Immigration Representation Project, representing asylum seekers from Cameroon and Haiti before the Boston Immigration Court.

During Nevas’ year-long fellowship he will work on various growth projects and research for the clinical program as well as assist the other clinical fellows, Stephan Sonnenberg and Matthew Smith, as they supervise students in the Negotiation & Mediation Clinic.

The Harvard Negotiation & Mediation Clinic is the first law school clinic in the nation to focus on projects related to conflict assessment and dispute systems design. Founded in 2006 by director Robert Bordone, the Thaddeus R. Beal Clinical Professor of Law at the Harvard Law School, the clinic seeks to train a new generation of lawyers to be creative problem solvers and dispute system architects. Clinical students are paired with outside organizations that encounter conflict situations and are looking for advice. Working closely with the client and the clinical supervisors, students assist in creating sustainable and equitable solutions to these problems.
