Oct. 5, 2009 - PRLog -- Centrifuges are handy solutions for various levels of clinical trials and research applications. Different types of laboratory centrifuges accomplish different types of centrifuging applications such as sucrose gradient, differential, isopycnic and a variety of other types of centrifugation processes.

The type of the clinical procedure, the size of your labs and various other factors determine the type of laboratory centrifuge to be used. Some of them can be used for all general purpose applications while some others are very specific.

Centrifuges in Varying Sizes

Laboratories mainly use two major types of laboratory centrifuges; they are bigger sized ones and small sized ones. Bigger sized centrifuges are commonly known as centrifuges itself, while the smaller ones are microfuges or micro centrifuges. Small plastic tubes are used in these models that are capable of holding small amount of sampling liquids.

Benchtop and Floor Standing Models

Depending on the working environment of your labs, you can opt for benchtop or floor standing models of laboratory centrifuges. Benchtop models are smaller in size and easier to operate. They provide versatile centrifuge solution. Though they are best suited for laboratories with limited space, they are now used in laboratories of all sizes. Floor standing models are highly sought after by laboratories with limited bench space. They are used for scientific procedures requiring large volume sample processing and centrifugation of high volumes of standard tubes.

Refrigerated Models for Temperature Sensitive Substances

Normal laboratory centrifuges do not function well for centrifuging temperature sensitive samples. For this purpose, you can use refrigerated laboratory centrifuges. Internal cooling systems such as condensers and compressors are included in these models helping the samples to be centrifuged at pre-set or below ambient temperature.

Though there are still more models and types available, their functions always remain the same. All types of centrifuges rotate the substance around a fixed angle and separate the fluid from the solid substances by applying the sedimentation principle. They primarily function with the support of a centralized motor.

Purchase Suitable Models from Medical Equipment Suppliers

Whatever be your labware requirement, all these models of centrifuges can be purchased from wholesale dealers or suppliers. They offer different types of quality laboratory centrifuges from a variety of manufacturers.
