October is the month of the St. Agatha Breast Cancer Rosary

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Month of the Rosary in the Catholic Church. The FiftyNineBeads Rosary artists have created a Rosary Chaplet to celebrate both of these events: The St. Agatha Breast Cancer Rosary Chaplet.

Oct. 2, 2009 - PRLog -- When Mary Stucko's sister was diagnosed with breast cancer several years ago, their family was shocked  and devastated.  They had no family history of breast cancer and did not know much about the disease.  Within a few weeks, they had read countless articles and books and her sister had begun chemotherapy.

Stucko quickly got to work designing a breast cancer rosary for her sister.  The result is the St. Agatha Breast Cancer Rosary Chaplet.  Crafted of faceted pink Cat's Eye beads and sterling silver, the chaplet is the perfect size rosary to hold during chemotherapy or radiation treatments.  A chaplet is a one-decade rosary that is often dedicated to a particular saint.  In this case, Stucko dedicated the rosary to St. Agatha, the patron saint of breast cancer.  Said Stucko, "The goal of our rosary business is to encourage people to say the rosary and to become more aware of the intercession of the saints.  The saints have lived through many of the same problems that we are currently experiencing.  Who could understand your problems better than someone who has already gone through them?"  St. Agatha was tortured and her breasts were removed when she refused to marry a man who she did not want to marry.

Stucko says she asked for the intercession of St. Agatha when she was designing the breast cancer chaplet.  She wanted it to be a rosary that would appeal to many women, that would speak to the issue of breast cancer and that would be easy to take to the doctor's appointments and chemotherapy.  She also wanted it to be beautiful.  "Women deserve something beautiful at a time in their lives when maybe they don't feel that way due to the changes in their bodies caused by breast cancer or the loss of their hair."

A portion of all proceeds from the sale of the St. Agatha Breast Cancer Chaplet is donated to breast cancer awareness organizations.  To purchase, please go to http://www.fiftyninebeads.com.
