Sept. 28, 2009 - PRLog -- Completed in 2003 the Great Ocean Walk is a 98km walking track constructed to showcase the iconic beauty of Victoria’s notorious Shipwreck Coast. The Great Ocean Walk complements the famed Great Ocean Road – one of the world’s most famous and scenic drives.  Of course the great advantage of walking this dramatic coastline on foot is you get to see all the of out of the way sights missed when you travel this coastline by car – and the views are that much more rewarding when you “earn” them by walking.

Victoria’s Great Ocean Walk is an apt name for an iconic coastline. Perched high on the windswept knoll of Ryan’s Den there is nothing between you and Antarctica except the treacherous windswept Southern Ocean. Looking out to sea is like looking back in time – this is after all the Great Circle Route – the route the clippers took from England in the 1800’s when the cliffs of the Shipwreck Coast were often the first (and sometimes the last) land the passengers had seen since they departed England.  The Great Ocean Walk culminates at the famous 12 Apostles, a unique and rugged collection of sea stacks that stand out proudly from the sandstone cliff escarpment above a windswept beach continually pounded by the surf. All too soon your walk is over and it is time to move on and return to a more urban existence. Your walk may be done but your memories will last you forever.
