Psychologist Specializing In Post Weight Loss Surgery Issues Joins NJ Bariatric Center

Sept. 28, 2009 - PRLog -- Dr. Michael Keren, a psychologist specializing in weight loss issues facing gastric bypass, LAP-BAND® or REALIZE Band ® patients, joins the New Jersey Bariatric Center.

“Dr. Keren is the newest multi-discipline team member to the growing New Jersey Bariatric Center,” said Dr. Ajay Goyal, founder, New Jersey Bariatric Center, and Director of Bariatric Surgery at Overlook Hospital, Summit, New Jersey.  “His experience working with people to establish realistic goals for weight loss, healthy living and exercise makes him a perfect fit to help our patients start and maintain their weight loss.”

Dr. Keren is a clinical psychologist with more than twenty years of experience.  His specialty in bariatric psychology has grown from both a professional and personal space.  Professionally,  he has observed the way in which struggles around weight, food and self-image have challenged individuals, limited lives and complicated the functioning of not only the individual, but their partners, spouses and families.   Having had extensive post-doctoral training in Couple’s and Family Therapy as well as Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic therapy, he is uniquely qualified to assist gastric bypass, LAP-BAND® or REALIZE Band ® patients on their journey to a healthier life.

Personally, Dr. Keren has lived many of the struggles he helps others with regarding weight loss.  He received his gastric banding procedure from Dr. Goyal, and is living the “bariatric experience.”  This perspective allows him to not only understand the patient’s experience but to deal with weight loss struggles along-side his patients, a co-traveler on the journey to a healthier life.
