Sept. 22, 2009 - PRLog -- WASHINGTON – Capital Idea Ventures, Inc. (CiV) has received the Standard of Excellence award in the Education category of the Web Marketing Association's 2009 WebAward Competition for Web site development. Capital Idea Ventures, Inc. is a full-service web development and design firm located in the metro Washington, D.C. area.

CiV was asked by The Ashbrook Center for Public Affairs and the National Endowment for the Humanities to create a series of web-based interactives for U.S. History and Government teachers. The lessons and the interactives created as a part of this partnership are being placed on the NEH's EDSITEment web site, which features the best of the humanities on the web.

A Word Fitly Spoken: Abraham Lincoln and the American Union is a Flash-based interactive which tells the story of Lincoln's commitment to the preservation of the Union during the tumultuous years of the Civil War using a variety of multimedia and teaching tools for U.S. History teachers.

CiV auditioned voice actors to portray Lincoln for dramatic presentations of his First and Second Inaugural Addresses and the Gettysburg Address.  In addition, the website provides a gallery of period images and eyewitness audio recorded in the 1930s.  An illustrated map outlining the pivotal "Grant's Grand Strategy" provides further context and background on the end of the war.

β€œIt was a privilege to be involved in this project – creating tools to help engage students in the American story. We're thrilled that the CiV team received a WebAward for our efforts.” says D.J. Smith, President and Founder of Capital Idea Ventures, Inc.

These activities are a part of the NEH's We the People initiative. The project is led by Dr. John Moser, Assistant Professor of History at Ashland University, and the lessons are developed by distinguished faculty and secondary school teachers from across the nation. Dr. Moser had this to say about the project:

"We are continually impressed with CiV's ability to create fresh and compelling interactive concepts. The visuals are stunning. CiV also took care of the important details - like auditioning voice actors for Abraham Lincoln and music selection - which make these stories come alive."

More than 2,400 sites from 40 countries were adjudicated in 96 industry categories during this year's competition. Entries were judged on design, copy writing, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation, and use of technology.  The WebAward Competition is the premier award recognition program for Web developers and marketers worldwide.
