Sept. 21, 2009 - PRLog -- Ft. Pierce, FL --  Attorney Curtis Boyd, 43, has met all qualifications to run for the District 2 City Commission seat currently held by Christine Coke. Although this is the first time Boyd has run for office, he is no stranger to Ft. Pierce politics.

Boyd is a native of Ft. Pierce. He graduated from Ft. Pierce Westwood High School where he served as class President from 9th through 12th grades and excelled both academically and athletically. His leadership continued as an officer in the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity at the University of Florida where he graduated college and law school. Boyd then returned to his hometown and has operated his own law firm for 15 years, having practiced statewide, including Federal Courts and the Florida Supreme Court.

Boyd became interested in securing a Commission seat during his experiences with Ft. Pierce government regarding his ownership of a downtown property in which Dan McCarty lived for some time as a child. Boyd purchased the property from the McCarty family, who abandoned the decaying structure many years earlier. With the McCarty family's emphatic support, the Ft. Pierce Historic Preservation Board granted Boyd a demolition permit.

Thereafter, while offering the structure for free, and despite the absence of any designation or restriction attaching to the property, certain officials have prevented Boyd from removing the structure and utilizing his property. While pursuing his own rights, he has become proactive due to observing other residents similarly subjected to an abuse of power.

Boyd's focus will be on promoting a community friendly and polite government that will assist all residents equally. As a businessman, he is interested in encouraging business growth, and recalling a vibrant Ft. Pierce in his youth, he hopes to revitalize community spirit.

Boyd, whose father served as a captain in the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Department, explained the recent layoff of local police officers as officials mistaking essentials for luxuries. Also, having paid both FPL rates and FPUA rates, Boyd commented, "There is such a difference. I've had to tighten my belt like many others, so I personally share concern over the high rates. Residents deserve answers."

Boyd has chosen Robert Rydzewski, CPA, general manager of Mcarthur Farms as his campaign manager. Boyd may be reached at 772-293-0604.
