Sept. 20, 2009 - PRLog -- Country music (or country and western) is a blend of popular musical forms originally found in the Southern United States and the Appalachian Mountains. It has roots in traditional folk music, Celtic music, gospel music and old-time music and evolved rapidly in the 1920s.

The term country music began to be used in the 1940s when the earlier term hillbilly music was deemed to be degrading and the term was widely embraced in the 1970s, while country and Western has declined in use since that time, except in the United Kingdom and Ireland, where it is still commonly used.

In the Southwestern US a different mix of ethnic groups created the music that became the Western music of the term country and Western. The term "country music" is used today to describe many styles and subgenres.

Country music has produced two of the top selling solo artists of all time. Elvis Presley who was known early on as “the Hillbilly Cat” and was a regular on the radio program Louisiana Hayride went on to become a defining figure in the emergence of rock and roll. Contemporary musician Garth Brooks with 220 million albums sold, is the top-selling solo artist in U.S. history.

The first commercial recording of what can be considered country music was "Sallie Gooden" by fiddlist A.C. (Eck) Robertson in 1922 for Victor Records. Columbia Records began issuing records with "hillbilly" music (series 15000D "Old Familiar Tunes") as early as 1924.

The original and first harmonizing group in American country music that consisted of Alvin Pleasant "A.P." Delaney Carter (1891-1960), his wife Sara Dougherty Carter (1898-1979), and his sister-in-law Maybelle Addington Carter (1909-1978). Maybelle was married to A.P.'s brother Ezra (Eck) Carter and was also Sara's first cousin. All three were born and raised in southwestern Virginia, where they were immersed in the tight harmonies of mountain gospel music and shape note singing. Maybelle's distinctive and innovative guitar playing style became a hallmark of the group as well as harmony, male/female duet style harmonizing singing. This is the era that country music male/female duet singing got initiated and recognized as one of the most difficult and yet appreciated style of country music and music in general.

Maybelle Carter was born on May 10, 1909 near Nickelsville, Virginia, the daughter of Hugh Jackson Addington and Margaret S. Kilgore. She had three daughters, Helen, Valerie and June. Maybelle with her three daughters continued with the idea of performing country music using their unique talent of harmony right until they sang together no more. This tradition extended into the act and legendary duet team of Johnny Cash and June Carter. There have been several legendary true duet teams throughout the history of country music however the perfection of creating and establishing the aura surrounding the male/female duet team has not been implemented as it was back then until recently with the modern popular duet team of Deanna Cash and James Paycheck better known as CASHnCHECKS. Their mixed and versatile style of traditional and popular country songs adds a special touch to the difficult talent of blending their voices as if it were one chord made up of a combination of complimenting notes creating something so pleasing to the ear that the fans have no choice other than to love and appreciate the duo's incredible talent. Deanna and James not only perform in a convincing heart felt emotion for their music and each other but the joy and fun that they have on stage is absorbed into the attending audience in such a way that there is no emotional stone left un turned. The fans leave a CASHnCHECKS show feeling completely satisfied by having every part of their emotions stimulated by C&C's deeply touching ballads to their high fast paced upbeat songs. CASHnCHECKS is an act we will be hearing a lot of and a act to be reckoned with.
