By: Camille Hammond Hosted by Shady Grover Fertility Center, the largest and most progressive fertility center in the United States, over 300 people have already registered and the race has generated over $45,000 in support for the Cade Foundation. Major sponsors include Shady Grove Fertility, Professional Pharmacy of Essex, EMD Serono, Ambulatory Care Pharmacy, Prosperity Specialty Pharmacy, Schering Plough Pharmaceuticals and Greater Chesapeak Orthopedic Associates. For the hometown football fans, the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Redskins are also sponsoring the event! Race chairpersons will include the Wizard Girls (dancers for the Washington Wizards) and Mrs LaDaria Richardson- Mrs Charm City who is also former Mrs North Carolina, Tasha Newsome (Lady Ravens) and Brenda Frieze (University of Maryland College Park Womens Basketball coach). The race course, based in the lovely Fallsgrove neighborhood of Rockville, MD promises to be a fast and runner/ walker friendly course that is good for both novice and experienced athletes. “We are so excited about this year’s race,” said Camille Hammond, president and founder of the Cade Foundation. “Partnering with Shady Grove, we are confident that we will reach our goal, and we are looking forward to providing so many worthy couples with the funds they need to grow their family.” To date, nine families nationwide have received the Family Building Grant. This year, 121 families applied for a Family Building Grant. Funding decisions will be made in October and announced by November 1, 2009. A couple in Philadelphia adopted their first son, Grant, thanks in large part to the Family Building Grant they received in 2007. And in December of 2008, a couple from Noblesville, Ind. received the grant, and are now expecting. For additional information on the event, the Tinina Q.
