Country music artists are finding new ways to attract their fans

Sept. 17, 2009 - PRLog -- The duet team CASHnCHECKS are in talks with some of the biggest names in the music business... But the names we are hearing have to do with the Pop music and not the Country music world they are accustomed to. Is it possible that Deanna & James have decided to change their style and venture out into the wilds of the Pop market?
It is common knowledge that many of the great Producers and Directors of the Pop Genre have also worked with some of the big celebrities in the Country music field. Lets face it, acts that are billing themselves as Country truly are not, in the true sense of the meaning, for example, the new young female teenager that is fresh out of high school, sounding more like Avril than Dolly or maybe you like the supposedly country male group that resembles an aging BeeGees more than the Oaks? Its like the salesman trying to sell you a truck and calling it a car... AND... Trying to convince you that it is a car!
The powers that be have obviously been pushing and promoting the Pop music culture to the country folks and have decided to be loyal to making money rather than making music, Country music, that is.
Music sales of all genres fell in the early part of 2009, when compared to 2008 data. Rap was hit particularly hard with 30% drop between 2007 and 2008, with New Age music being the best of the worst with just 5.9% drop. European music sales were down 8.3% in 2008, however it is a head scratching fact that only 33% of all music sold was digital. In the catagory of Top Abums Sold for 2008, the top country album for 2008 on that list came in at position #9 and is no surprise with that being Carrie, but that the Country music industry claims the #5 position with Swift and the #6 spot to the Kid is surprising. Swift does not fit Country music in any way and the Kid himself proclaims the same fact with his last name alone! The #10 best selling Country album on the list went to Garth, but even he doesn't know if he's Country or Pop made manifest by his Chris Gaines period.
The most listened to songs on radio for 2008 was undoubtedly Pop with not a country artist any where in the running. Congrats to Alicia for being #1 for so long!  YTY consumer demand for music among Internet users in the US fell 2% in 2008. The proportion of US Internet users, age 13 to 23, purchasing a CD in the prior year fell from 25% in 2007 to 22% in 2008. NPD estimates that the volume of CDs purchased declined by 19% in 2008. The top music retailers in the US: Apple, Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Amazon, reports that the average age of music purchasers are between age 13 and 25. The obvious is that these people are interested in Pop music. It is suggested that the biggest reason most of these youngsters buy their music on CD is because it is best listened to on an ear popping sound system found in most "speakers on wheels" vehicles that these folks drive. 56% of those types of music lovers admit to getting their favorite tunes by free download pirating or simply trading and swapping MP3's.
46% of people aged 13 - 34 listen to free streaming samples of music before they buy compared to 25% aged 35 -50. 42% of people aged 13 -34 download music from the Internet compared to 24% of the people aged 35- 50. Going to a MySpace profile of an artist is 31% for the former and 13% for the latter.
It is reported that 83% of the music loving community hear a song on the radio before buying it. This fact confirms that airplay for an artist is paramount for selling CDs. Only 28% of music lovers have a MySpace page and admit to surfing through their favorite artists sites.
85% of people questioned said they would not buy a CD of an artist just from hearing it on the radio but probably would buy a CD of an artist after attending a concert or a performance.
The Genres that attract Internet fans are in order; Hip-Hop, Rock, Metal, Pop, Country, R&B... This translated directly into Internet music sales however, the majority of the users are downloading free pirated MP3's which awards the artist $0.00 for their work.
Depending on which survey a person wishes to accept, the results remain to be similar. The fans of Pop/Rock/Hip-Hop spend the most money on music, however they are the least loyal and demand fresh new things at every turn. Country music fans are the most loyal however they are the most conservative when it comes to buying CD's.
With all these many stats plus a whole Santa's bag more, it is not surprising that many Country music artists, like CASHnCHECKS, are looking for new ways to grab the attention of their fans and get them moving to buy CD's and make the effort worth while.
