Global Classroom Introduces the Flu Preparedness Center for K12 Schools

This online educational tool is designed for anyone--especially K12 schools and businesses--who needs information about, and/or a turnkey solution for educating online during, a flu outbreak.

Sept. 14, 2009 - PRLog -- Global Classroom, the most effective way to connect learners and educators online, has partnered with Dr. Jan Carney, Associate Dean and research and clinical professor of public health for the University of Vermont College of Medicine, to provide an innovative online solution for K12 schools facing the flu pandemic crisis.  Global Classroom’s solution combines information, teacher training, and digital classroom technology to allow school districts to stay open even when they have to shut down because of an H1N1 flu outbreak.

Using Global Classroom’s eSchool technology, when a school has to send home many students or even shut down because of the flu, students can connect with their teachers and can work on their assignments from home using a digital classroom. Global Classroom’s flu preparedness center is a complete solution for schools, it includes providing all teachers and students with a digital classroom and shows teachers how easy it is to set up their classes and enroll their students. To help prepare administrators, teachers and parents, Dr. Jan Carney has created an online knowledge portal to keep everyone informed of best practices and outbreak developments as they happen.

With Global Classroom’s “classroom in the clouds” technology, not only can teachers and students stay connected away from school, a new import/export feature provides subject experts like Dr. Carney the ability to reach thousands of schools and their teachers with information regarding any public health issue in real time.  “The 2009 Flu Preparedness Center is another great example of how Global Classroom is not just providing technology, but also providing solutions to real problems,” reports Burr Warne, Global Classroom’s CEO and Founder.

On June 11, 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) signaled that a global pandemic of novel influenza A (H1N1) was underway by raising the worldwide pandemic alert level to Phase 6. This action was a reflection of the spread of the new H1N1 virus, not the severity of illness caused by the virus. At the time, more than 70 countries had reported cases of novel influenza A (H1N1) infection and there were ongoing community level outbreaks of novel H1N1 in multiple parts of the world.  According to a report released August 7, 2009, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported that, “The overall impact of 2009 H1N1 should be greater than in the spring, and school dismissals may be warranted, depending on the disease burden and other conditions.”
