She reveals her latest collection of paintings inspired from the old Japanese poetry form "Haiku". Each single painting comes from a unique Haiku poem that describes the picture. Domna Delliou is painter who transforms useless objects to original paintings. Her influences extend from ancient Greek heroes and Byzantine portraits over traditional Japanese art. She is a certificated and widely recognized artist with more than 100 solo and group exhibitions in Greece and Europe.

Portraits but not only

An artist is never alone. She is always together with the forms she creates, the shapes, the lines and her colors. In the case of Domna Delliou this is more obvious as her forms are mainly people, girls and boys, men and women who provocatively dominate the picture instead of being secondary motives in the composition.

Faces, fragments of faces or bodies become the dress of unwrought, natural materials (such as rocks, wood but even newspaper) and intensify the intimacy of the expression. Even everyday objects -chairs, wooden trunks etc.- are transformed in a fascinate way into objects of art that bear obvious marks of handcraft.

Domna's world of painting, always understandable and recognizable, creates his own peculiarity inherited from the popular and Byzantine art but also from her personal imaginary space of forms and shapes. This is the importance and the difference of Domna's painting. Many fragments of Human History are met and used in her paintings. The prehistorical art through the Cycladic statuette, the archaic and classic statues of Kouros and Kores, the art of Egyptian Fajum, the Byzantine painting, the popular painting find a common meeting point without any affection. In the strong penetrating eyes, in the deep intense glances are met all the Byzantine and popular painters, Kontoglou, Eggonopoulos, Egyptian painters, the art of graphics and advertisement. Looking at her work we discover that all these fragments from past come back to present through a joyful but sometimes also blue painting which refers directly to the only subject, the mankind.
