The play, performed as part of a global activist theater movement known as BOLD, uncovers the secret lives of low-risk woman in labor as they confront coercion in hospitals and uncover "My body rocks" strategies for obtaining a powerful birth experience. Through the stories of eight woman the audience begins to understand the truth behind how low - risk woman are giving birth today. A rare oppurtunity to take a inside look at how woman really think and feel about birth. Obstetrician - gynecologist and best selling author Christine Northrup, MD a BOLD supporter, says, "Now it's time to free birth canals - and pregnant woman everywhere. And that is the power and glory contained in this magnificent, funny and wonderfully wise play. And also for BOLD, the organization that is getting the word out about the joys of normal birth." High Tea will be presented by Georgia friends of Midwives as to help consumers get to know Midwives of all types across Georgia and to honor both Midwives and the families that are in support of Mother Friendly Childbirth. Saturday, September 19th at 3:30pm Lunch and a Film, presented by ICAN - The International Caesarian Awareness Network of Atlanta will present What Babies Want narrieted by Noah Wiley. A film depicting Childbirth and parenting awareness will be shown and lunch will be served. Starts at 11:45pm Our Mother, Baby, family Fair will host over 30 Advertisers and exhibitors and local family friendly non profits working to promote healthy and safe Pregnancy, Birth, Breastfeeding and Parenting options and resources as well as many - Family and earth friendly, local services and business's. Starts at 11:00am on the 19th of September Honoree Galleria, We will be honoring woman that have made a difference in childbirth practices and have helped to see that we have moved towards Mother friendly childbirth practices with a special reception both Friday, the 18th and Saturday the 19th of September - Our Honoree's are Susan Hodges and Henci Goer. Starts at 5:30 Art show and silent auction, will host pregnancy and birth art from over 40 artist! This will be the largest exhibit of Pregnancy and Birth Art AAtlanta has ever seen! Starts at 11:00am Childcare will be available for Saturday evenings performance from 6:30pm till 9:30pm "Childbirth today is a human rights issue for low-risk pregnant mothers" states Brody, who spent a year interviewing over 100 low risk woman before writing her play. "Choices in childbirth have been severely restricted for this large population of pregnant woman despite strong evidence-based research supporting a wide variety of birth choices." BOLD events raise awareness that childbirth can be normal and should be treated with respect, informed consent and Mother/Baby Friendly options. Since 2006 nearly 100 BOLD locations have raised over $130,000 for childbirth organizations. All funds raised through BOLD Atlanta will be given to Georgia Friends Of Midwives, BOLD action.org and ICAN of Atlanta.
