National Recycling Company Teams With Florida Rock BandAthens, Georgia, USA September 15th 2009 , New Hampshire-based industry giant, CD Recycling Center Of America has teamed up with Melbourne Florida rock band 'Simone' to assist with actively reducing recording industry waste.
Since their feature in the August 12th Florida Today Life section, the band has received over 250lbs of unused compact discs to be recycled. "We did some research on (compact discs in landfills) and found out that it is estimated to take over one million years for a CD to decompose," said Simone Taylor, lead singer of the band who recently started the recycling campaign. Since June, the band has placed a green recycling bin on stage at concerts and asks fans to fill it with old CDs, CD-ROMS,DVDs and video games they do not use anymore. Often referred to as a cross between No Doubt and Led Zeppelin, Simone continues to break convention with their own style. Known for their live performances -- "[Simone's] got the look, got the voice, got the songs" (Steve Gilmore, Rebel Riffs), Simone tours throughout the US and Europe. Their music has charted on GarageBand, StereoFame, OurStage, NoiseHead and Imeem, and their independent release "Temporary Heaven" was awarded the E.A.R. (Excellence In Audio Recording) award in 2007. The concert event begins at 9PM and tickets are available at the door.
