2010 Iowa Amateur to be played at Bent Tree Golf Club

Urbandale, IA – Iowa’s oldest golf Championship will come to Council Bluffs in 2010. The Iowa Golf Association is pleased to announce that the 108th Iowa Amateur Championship will be played on July 23-25, 2010 at Bent Tree Golf Club.

“We are pleased to bring the 108th Iowa Amateur Championship to Western Iowa”, said IGA Executive Director Bill Dickens.  “We expect Bent Tree to provide a strong test for the best amateurs who will compete in Iowa’s oldest and most prestigious championship”.

Since opening in 2000 Bent Tree Golf Club has quickly gained the reputation as one of the top courses in Western Iowa.  Although this will mark the first time the club has hosted the Iowa Amateur, it is not unfamiliar to the IGA and Iowa golfers.  Bent Tree hosted the 2003 Iowa Senior Open and the 2008 IGA Four-Ball Championship.  

“Bent Tree received strong reviews from those who played in the IGA Four-Ball here and Joe Madsen and his staff keep improving the course”, said Dickens.  “We are looking forward to it and hope to see a strong representation of players from the western regions of Iowa”.

First played in 1900 and only five years younger than the U.S. Amateur, the Iowa Amateur is the oldest golf event in Iowa and one of the oldest in the nation.  It is the ‘flagship’ championship of the Iowa Golf Association.
“We are very excited to host”, said Bent Tree PGA Professional Joe Madsen.  “Bent Tree is committed to make this event the standard for which future Iowa Amateurs are compared.”

The Iowa Golf Association serves as the governing body of golf for the state of Iowa. Run by amateur golfers the IGA provides a variety of programs and services that benefit everyone who plays the game. The IGA is licensed and authorized by the United States Golf Association for the statewide administration of the USGA Handicap System™ and the USGA Course Rating System™.
The IGA’s most visible role is to conduct nine state championships including the Iowa Amateur for more than 100 years. The IGA also conducts seven USGA qualifiers and offers a series of handicap events called the “Members Net Tour” which is open to IGA members of all skill levels.
The IGA provides educational seminars on the Rules, USGA Handicapping and on issues of importance to its member clubs.  The IGA provides administrative and financial support to the Iowa Women’s Golf Association and the Iowa Golf Hall of Fame. The IGA’s Herman Sani Scholarship Program has provided substantial financial support to more than 130 Iowa students since 1958.
