Follow on Google News | Dr. Margaret Smiechowski starts the salt cave trend.Dr. Margaret Smiechowski, North America's foremost expert on Himalayan salt and salt caves, announced this week that she is expanding her salt cave consulting business and is now available to assist people around the world with the design.
By: Dr. Margaret Smiechowski Dr. Smiechowski's most recent work involved creating a Himalayan salt cave at the Timeless Day Spa in Napersville, IL., which opened last week. However, Dr. Smiechowski has built several other caves, including three in Rutland, Vermont. Dr. Smiechowski is originally from Poland, where naturally-formed salt caves are abundant and used regularly by locals for maintaining their well-being. The largest salt mine in Poland is located in Wieliczka, and is home to a chapel and a hospital, known for its successes with respiratory conditions. When Dr. Smiechowski moved to the United States in the 1990’s, she wanted to bring the healing benefits of the salt mines with her. She opened her first Himalayan salt cave at the Pyramid Holistic Wellness Center in Rutland, Vermont in 2007. Although Americans have been taught that salt is bad for you, this fact only applies to table salt, which has been processed to remove almost all of the minerals. However, Himalayan salt is natural, unprocessed, and contains all of the minerals vital to life. Himalayan salt is also anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory. Scientists are also starting to study the positive effects of negative ions given off from the salt, purifying the environment and creating a natural detoxification effect.
