Aug. 26, 2009 - PRLog -- Sustainable Gaming Standard Committee Reaches Milestone

Madison, WI – August 27, 2009 –The Standards Committee that is leading the development of a national standard for sustainable gaming has reached a significant milestone in completing its initial assessment of the Draft Standard for Sustainable Slot Machines. In reviewing the draft standard, the committee has come up with a far-reaching framework and set of sustainability metrics to evaluate environmental, social, and economic performance at all levels of the gaming industry. Essential issues that have been explored in the standard development process included energy use and emission reductions, as well as the procurement, use and potential for reuse of more sustainable materials throughout the supply chain.

“Leonardo Academy is extremely happy with the progress that has been made towards the development of this standard,” said Michael Arny, President of Leonardo Academy. “We are especially grateful to the committee leadership in communicating the range of viewpoints represented on the committee and applaud all committee members for their keen insight and contributions. We look forward to the Committee’s continued guidance and consensus-building on the many issues that have been addressed and anticipate that this standard will soon be at the forefront of the sustainability movement in the gaming industry”.

Leonardo Academy, the neutral, third-party ANSI-accredited organization facilitating the development process for the sustainable gaming standard also announced that the committee leadership consisting of Eric Hansel, President of EGM Green, Jonny BearCub Stiffarm, Business Development Manager at NativeEnergy and Nancy Mancilla-Georgescu, Chief Executive Officer of ISOS Group have organized an education and outreach task force to inform manufacturers, end users and gaming trades associations about the gaming standard and its anticipated outcomes. Among the initiatives been undertaken, Mancilla-Georgescu will be developing a regular newsletter documenting the progress and achievements of the committee anticipated for first release in early Fall 2009.

“The gaming industry needs to communicate their activities in reducing adverse environmental impacts for it makes business sense as end users increasingly insist on sustainable products and services,” said Jonny BearCub Stiffarm, Committee Vice-Chair.” The standards development process is a perfect avenue for this as it provides a forum for discussing and debating differences in perception over what sustainability means across all aspects of the gaming industry”.
