Holiday claims – accidents abroad If you have an accident and are injured whilst on holiday we advise you to do the following: - Seek medical treatment straightaway - Report your accident to your holiday tour representative and insist that you be given a written report - Take the names and addresses of other guests who may have witnessed your accident - Take photographs of where your accident happened – don't forget most mobile phones have cameras on them so taking photos should be easy! - Make a note of any remedial action taken after the accident by the hotel or tour operator - Keep any receipts and medical notes you are given. This will make claiming compensation for your injury much easier when you return to the UK. Holiday claims – illness or food poisoning abroad If you are unlucky enough to get food poisoning whilst on holiday due to poor hygiene standards or improperly cooked food at your hotel we suggest you: - Seek medical treatment straightaway - Report your illness to your hotel and tour operator and obtain a written report - Make a note of what you have eaten in the last 48 hours prior to feeling ill and where you ate it - Take the name and addresses of any other guests who have become ill – as your claim will carry more weight if it is made as part of a group - Keep notes of any action that your hotel or tour operator takes as a result of your complaint - Beware of tour operators stating it is a bug or a "norovirus" - Keep copies of any medical notes or expenses you incur whilst you are ill on holiday and when you return to the UK Most importantly for all holiday claims please do not accept any financial offers of compensation until you have sought legal advice.
