Aug. 23, 2009 - PRLog -- Options 10 features designs ranging from whimsical line drawings and simple lino prints to sophisticated Indienne trails and inky Chinese water-colours. Designed by the Sanderson studio together with contemporary UK designers, the collection includes ten cotton and cotton mix print designs, all which are suitable for curtains and upholstery, alongside two embroideries and eleven complementary wallpapers.  The collection is available at the online retailer http://www.fabricsandpapers.com.

A new washable cotton weave in thirty-three colours completes this comprehensive range. This stimulating and varied collection of affordable fabrics and wallpapers is ideal for refreshing the interior of any house without breaking the budget.

‘The enjoyment of working on the Options Collection is that it offers something for everyone. Coloured in fresh and vibrant shades this diverse print range has been coordinated with wallpapers, embroideries and weaves in an easily accessible way.  It is presented as visual guide to decorating both classic and contemporary interiors,’ says Emma Vans Agnew, fabricsandpapers.com.

The Prints and Embroideries

‘Sweet Chestnut’ and ‘Oakwood’ originated as lino-prints created by carving the patterns onto lino which was then inked with a roller and impressed onto paper. Sweet Chestnut is a three colour design with pinecones, flowers and thistles whilst Oakwood is a single colour oak leaf trail. Both designs have been beautifully translated onto cotton in three colour variations to retain the characteristic textures and flecks of the original prints.

Adapted from an exquisite Indian bed-hanging dating from 1700 -1725, ‘Pondicherry’ features finely drawn lotus motifs arranged as an elegant trail with delicate filigree decorations on the leaves and petals. Following a similar theme ‘Zahra’ has the colourful appeal of Middle Eastern textiles, with a bold semi-geometric design of flowers and leaves based on traditional tribal textiles. ‘Copacabana’ is another striking design; a tropical pattern of fruit and flowers printed on cotton panama with a graphic stencilled style. All three come in four vibrant colourways.

‘Finches’ is a fanciful design of brightly printed birds juxtaposed onto a monotone pen & ink drawing of delicate entwined branches. The soft hues of the backgrounds and a glazed finish enhance the youthful, fresh appeal of this charming design. In contrast, ‘Dandelion Clocks’ is a fun and funky 50’s retro design. Stylised dandelion heads with seeds radiating from a central point are printed in four off-beat colour combinations.

Capturing the epitome of femininity, ‘Hana’ is a romantic design featuring single blooms in the style of Chinese silk paintings. Characterised by their brilliant pure colours and confident brush strokes, the inky colours bleed into each other to give a beautifully rich effect on a textured ground.

A fresh and contemporary design, ‘Cow Parsley’ features tiny jewel-like flowers layered with lacy ferns on five lively coloured backgrounds. ‘Anais’, another floral design, depicts peony blossoms massed together against a background of leaves. The use of subtle watercolour tones heighten the romantic feel of this feminine design which is printed on glazed cotton.

‘Calliope’ and ‘Dandelion’ are two stylish embroideries on a cotton ground which beautifully coordinates with the print collection. Calliope is a multi-coloured stylised floral motif which sits perfectly with ‘Copacabana’. Dandelion takes the motif found in the print ‘Dandelion Clocks’ as a central element and as a result the two harmonize faultlessly.

The Wallpapers

The complementary papers in the Options 10 collection range from small scale motifs to large scale colourful designs to match the fabrics. Translucent and metallic inks, ombre stripes, stries and micas have been used to create a rich array of subtle and luxurious effects.

‘Finches’, ‘Oakwood’, ‘Cow Parsley’ and ‘Dandelion Clocks’ sit perfectly in a scheme with the fabrics of the same name. They work equally well as feature papers, either on a statement wall or throughout a room.

‘Maheshwar Stripe’ and ‘Zari’ are both taken from an antique Indian sari woven in silk and ‘zari’ [gold thread]. The stripe has been adapted from the elaborate gold border and the small dot is taken from the motif woven in the field of the cloth. Both wallpapers are printed by gravure to retain the delicate detail of the weaves they were inspired by and reflect a trend for wallpaper designs which replicate the textures of fine fabrics.

The tropical ‘Copacabana’ is a two-colour version of the fabric design and uses the same bold motifs to create a dynamic but usable paper. The small all over pattern of ‘Vermicelli’, and the beautiful design ‘Oriental Trellis’, perfectly complement both the European style of the floral fabrics and the Eastern Style of the Zahra print. The collection also includes ‘Delaunay Damask’ a classic medium scale damask printed over a subtle striped ombre ground.
