Aug. 22, 2009 - PRLog -- The problem with Glass:
Did you know that the bottle of your favorite beverage, well-hope you really enjoyed it, will take 1 million years to bio-degrade? The other problem with glass is that it is hard to recycle because it is not very cost effective. Recycling companies have a tough time recycling glass as compared to paper because it comes in so many colors and types that they can't just melt them and use it again. With unique chemicals added to every kind of glass, to give it color usually, it becomes very hard to segregate them.

Some facts and numbers:
The energy saved from recycling one glass bottle can run a 100-watt light bulb for four hours. It also causes 20% less air pollution and 50% less water pollution than when a new bottle is made from raw materials.
Mining and transporting raw materials for glass produces about 385 pounds of waste for every ton of glass that is made. If recycled glass is substituted for half of the raw materials, the waste is cut by more than 80%.
Every ton of glass that is recycled results in one ton of raw materials saved to process new glass, including: 1,300 pounds of sand, 410 pounds of soda ash and 380 pounds of limestone.

The Solution:
Even 4th graders know these days that the formula to a Greener Planet is Reuse, Recycle and well-do it all over again. But the key is to make it as easy and practically do-able as possible because I refuse to believe that somebody will make a trip to the recycling yard just to drop off their beer bottles.

Recycled Glass Jewelry:
The concept of Recycled Glass Jewelry is simple. Turn simple inane objects like bottles, jar, containers, windows, cups, plates etc. into works of art, to give them a fresh lease of life. There are several artists who are dedicated to this cause and create fabulous jewelry which is stunning and fashionable with a Green edge.

At www.TerraTrendz.com we feature such artists and their creations. Each one has a unique approach towards the creation of this jewelry. For instance this bracelet (http://www.terratrendz.com/Buds_Recycled_Glass_Bracelet_p...) was made from post-consumer glass and then sand tumbled to give it a seaglass effect. Isn't that amazing!

Now lets compare it to this beautiful pendant (http://www.terratrendz.com/Green_Coiffure_Confetti_Recycl...) where the artist has fused confetti into recycled glass.

The idea is to make the jewelry as chic and stylish as any other jewelry and hope that more people will choose this over conventional choices and help the Green Cause.
We at Terra Trendz believe that there shouldn't be any compromise between keeping it Green and keeping one's style. By providing people with a trendy alternate we hope that we can contribute our two cents to the earth.

Terra Trendz was formed by a bunch of friends who were bitten by the Green bug when the word was still being associated with "Envy". A lot has changed since then. We hope its for the Greater Good.
