Aug. 21, 2009 - PRLog -- Agra is one of the most sought after tourist places as Taj Mahal lies here that lives in the hearts of people around the world. History of Agra is fully apparent from the numerous historical monuments in and around the city. The history of Agra city is allied with the Mughal dynasty, several other rulers also contributed to the rich history of Agra. The city of Taj Agra was founded by Sikandar Lodhi in the 16th century. Babur (founder of the Mughal dynasty) also lived in Agra for sometime and brought the concept of square Persian-styled gardens here. Emperor Akbar built the Agra fort. There are many other visiting places also that compel the tourists to visit them. The brief description of monuments in Agra is as under:

Taj Mahal
Agra is famous as the Taj Mahal is situated here that is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The architectural magnificence of the tombs, the fort and the palaces is a brilliant remainder of the capital in the 16th and early 17th centuries.
 
Agra Fort
Agra fort was built by the great Emperor Akbar in 1565 A.D. The fort is a magnum opus of design and construction and erection. In fort there are a number of beautiful buildings, including the Moti Masjid, Diwane-I-Aam, Diwani-I-Khas and musanman Burj, where Shah Jahan passed last days of his life and died in imprisonment beside Jahangirs place, Khaas Mahal and the Sheesh Mahal.

Fatehpur Sikri
The royal city at Fatehpur Sikri was built by Mughal Emperor Akbar. It is situated 26 miles west of Agra (city of the Taj mahal, India). He is also reputed to be a very broadminded ruler and the buildings at Fatehpur Sikri. Now, Fatehpur Sikri is a World Heritage site. The Panch Mahal, or Palace of Five Storey, and the Buland Darwaza, a huge gate which provides entrance to the complex, number among the finest samples of Mughal architecture.

Sikandara
Sikandara is mausoleum of Akbar. It is situated about 10 km from Agra. The construction of this building was started by Akbar but it was completed by his son Jahangir in 1605. This beautiful tomb is built moderately in red sandstone and in marble, with a mixture of Hindu and Muslim design elements. It was last resting place of the Mughal Emperor Akbar who was the greatest of the Mughal emperors and one of the most secular minded royalties of his time.

Itmad-Ud Daula
Across the river Yamuna and to the north of the fort there are numerous fine examples of Mughal architecture. The Itmad -Ud -Daula is one of such a nice historic monuments as a by the Empress Noor Jehan as a memorial to her father Mirza Ghiyas Baig, is beautifully ornamented with pietra dura engrave and lattice work marble screens.
