Aug. 19, 2009 - PRLog -- This month alone has seen the signing of four major luxury hotels in Phuket; The Westin Siray Resort, Accor's Pullman Phuket Arcadia, The Ritz-Carlton Reserve and the announcemnt of a seventy room U-Hotel and Resort in Kamala.

Starwood Hotel Group has signed its first Westin resort in Thailand, The Westin Siray Resort which is due to open in early 2010.   The resort is located on tranquil Siray Island in a private cove overlooking Siray Bay and has it's own private beach.

The resort, which is currently under construction, will offer 258 guest rooms, suites and villas each with ocean views and some with private plunge pools.  Guests will be able to experience a range of Westin products and services including the signature Westin Heavenly Bed, Westin Workout and Heavenly Spa. Other facilities will include six food and beverage outlets, three outdoor pools, Westin Kids Club, a business center and four meeting rooms.

“We are thrilled to introduce the first Westin resort in Thailand! Thailand is known for the warm hospitality and friendly services and we are excited to bring travelers to Phuket a new level of personal and instinctive services in an inspiring setting of abundance green, white sandy beach and crystal clear water,” said Greg Findlay, General Manager of The Westin Siray Bay Resort, Phuket.

Leading global hotel brand Accor have also signed an agreement this month to manage the 280 room Pullman Phuket Arcadia located at Nai Thon Beach on Phuket's west coast and scheduled to open in 2012.

The new hotel is aimed at the luxury market and is currently under development by the owners of the Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort.

Earlier this month Ritz-Carlton signed Similian Beach located in Bo Dan, north of Tha Sai in Thailand's Phang Nga Province.  The resort, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, will feature seventy-nine luxury villas and is scheduled to open in late 2011.  The site was previously owned by Kingdon Hotel Investments and earmarked as a Raffles managed property.

Ritz-Carlton Reserve is a new brand of Ritz-Carlton and Similian Beach marks their second Reserve resort in Thailand.  The company are currently developing Phulay Bay in Krabi, which is due to open in December 2009.

The other signing of note this month is the announcement from Bangkok listed firm Tanayong that they will develop a seventy room hotel in Kamala which will open in 2011.

Tanayong is affiliated with Absolute Hotel Services who have recently aquired a number of sites in Phuket.  The new hotel will operate under the U-Hotel and Resort brand which currently has hotels in Chiang Mai and others under development throughout Thailand.

The development costs of the Kamala hotel have been estimated at 500 million Baht.

The latest hotel signings are a boost for the Phuket toursim industry which has seen declining numbers during the economic crisis.  It is clear that major international brands view Phuket as a premier holiday destination and one that continues to attract increasing numbers of upmarket visitors.
