Aug. 9, 2009 - PRLog -- Winnipeg, Manitoba –  For 14 years, Vanessa Fardoe has been inspired by Japanese culture.  Growing up on a farm in Brokenhead Manitoba meant being away from standard technology such as cable TV.

Relying on comic books and video games, she took an interest in art, drawing and illustrations. Vanessa combined her interest in Japanese culture with her artistic ability to create beautiful fan art from comics that she was fond of such as Sailor Moon and was inspired greatly by a group of artists by the name of Clamp.

Little did Vanessa know that later on she would become a “mangaka” – a manga artist. Manga is Japanese comic book art. Since her days on the farm she has moved into the city and continues to be inspired by traditional artists as well as new and upcoming illustrators.

Her art began with simple pencil and paper, but evolved into new formats including watercolors paint, markers and colored pencils.  Today, Vanessa’s canvas of choice is digital media, using programs like Photoshop, Painter, Paint Tool SAI and Open Canvas, to name a few.

“My favorite program to use for digital inking is Paint Tool SAI but for coloring I prefer Photoshop CS2 or Corel Painter 10 – depending on what piece I’m working on” says Vanessa.

Vanessa has participated in various manga and comic book conventions, where she has been able to show off her art and meet up with other artists with the same interests.  She has made countless new friends since expanding her horizons, through the conventions, as well as social bookmarking sites such as facebook, and Deviant Art (a very popular meeting place for artists who like to show their work online)

In recent days, Vanessa has decided to put her art on T-shirts and other merchandise in addition to prints. She has recently opened her shop, “Kuro Studios” with a few of the bigger name POD services (To find out what a POD service is, please go to http://ezearticles.com/article3811.html)
